Solarising Singapore

Potential solar adopters were invited for this session as Solarising Singapore aims to let them hear directly from solar experts who are involved in all aspects of solar PV installation: the panel makers, installers, developers, and financiers. Solarising Singapore saw some very engaging panel discussions as the audience and panellists discussed issues like how much more Singapore needs to do in order to achieve 1,000MW capacity by 2020 and what are some of the key requirements for a successful PV project.

Goh Chee Kiong, Executive Director of Cleantech at the Economic Development board also gave an overview of Singapore’s solar landscape, and shared what were Singapore’s key solar initiatives such as the SolarNova programme, REIDS, the eco campus, and some business models available for companies looking to embark on solar projects. Solar leasing is currently the most popular business model, but Thomas Reindl, Deputy CEO of the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore also gave mention to green electricity retailing, which is set to grow in Singapore with the government’s intention to give consumers more choices when buying electricity.

Ms Tai Xiang, Senior Vice President (Sales and Project Development), Phoenix Solar Pte Ltd spoke about the top 3 must-haves for a successful solar PV project:  1) the perfect building that has an area that can maximise solar harnessing, 2) a suitable business model, and 3) energy output.
