The Capability Development Grant (CDG) is a programme by SPRING Singapore that extends a financial assistance to SMEs to develop capability upgrading initiatives which will enable SMEs to successfully compete and grow their businesses locally and globally. Energy efficiency upgrading work is covered by the grant as it enables SMEs to increase productivity and process improvement while at the same time reduce the overall energy consumption.
The grant reimburse up to 70 per cent of total qualifying project costs such as consultancy and equipment costs, capped at S$500,000.

There are cases where a company (in general), and a SME (in specific), acknowledges the importance and benefit of an energy efficiency upgrading work; however, the general perception is that such work or investment will require huge and more careful investment management. These concerns are recognised by several private funds, who are now willing and well-informed to finance such work- sometimes will an almost zero upfront cost to the client.
