ACMV systems are a major energy consumer in hot humid Singapore. Energy managers need a basic knowledge of ACMV systems to run the ACMV plant and equipment. Besides meeting the objectives of providing thermal comfort to occupants and other requirements, the energy manager must have the skills to operate the plant in an energy efficient manner. This module aims to integrate knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics to analyse the operating conditions of the ACMV plant with the objective of energy optimization.
1. Understand the functions and components of the ACMV system
2. Analyze energy performance characteristics of ACMV systems and be able to analyze the potential energy savings in ACMV systems
3. Operate and maintain energy-efficient chilled water and air distribution systems, resulting in optimum ACMV system performance
Dr. Jahangeer K. Abdul Halim graduated with a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Mechanical Engineering from National University of Singapore in 1998. He was awarded a Research Scholarship by the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1999 to undertake a research project on solar energy and was awarded a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree in 2002.
